Special Order, Sweet Gum,
A - Flame Birch Zuni Style Fetish Cougar and End Caps with Cherokee Twist
Ties
The wood used in the flute's construction can influence the
overall tonal quality of the flute. The harder woods tend to transmit or
radiate
the full vibration at high intensity
to give it a sharp clear tone and while soft woods like
Cedar disperse the vibration or resonate, producing a more mellow tone with
more overtones. This also relates to a greater or lesser degree of
sound projection
and sometimes overall volume. The species listed below are
regularly available
and are arranged from
the softest to the hardest or high resonance/low radiance
to lower resonance/high radiance (left to right - top to
bottom).

The * indicates woods that better used as accents (ends/fetish) on the flute rather than the flute itself. Due to the high resin content of these woods, high holding glue bonds are difficult and more prone to potential splitting from excessive 'rain-out' of moisture. This is caused by the temperature differential of the heat sink nature of the woods. Before deciding on one of these woods please consult me on the specifics of care requirements to assure long playing life.
